Spotify is finally moving forward with its plan to create an official app for the Apple Watch. The streaming service has released a test version of the iOS app that supports Apple's smartwatch.
The news came from Reddit users, who found a recent version of the official Spotify app for the Apple Watch on TestFlight, Apple's platform for testing beta versions of iOS apps.
But those expecting a feature-packed version right away may be disappointed. For now, users can only control music playback via their smartphone and, to the dismay of most, it is still not possible to store music offline on the Apple Watch.
In 2017, a developer named Andrew Chang had already created an unofficial version with more interesting features, including offline playback, called Spotty. Shortly after, it was renamed Snowy, and Andrew revealed that Spotify hired him to create a companion app using the company's iOS SDK.
Anyone interested in becoming a beta tester for Spotify on Apple Watch can fill out a form provided by the company.
