Google is rolling out some new features in an update to Maps on Android. The main one is that users can now follow venues and receive notifications about events, special offers and other activities at shops, pubs, restaurants and other places near them.
With the latest update – which is not yet available to all users – a new tab called ‘For You’ has been added, providing information about venues closest to users. From now on, any venues followed on the platform will also appear in this section of the app.
In addition, Google has also announced that it will now allow new businesses that are about to open to notify users ahead of their launch. As a result, such venues will display an orange indicator showing how long until they open, and this allows the owner to add all the necessary information in advance so that the venue can be found on Maps.
According to the company’s official post, anyone planning to set up a new business can apply to be listed on the platform before it is even up and running. This means the business will be shown to users up to three months before it opens.

These tools are expected to roll out to all Android users over the coming weeks. Business owners interested in updating both features for their premises can do so via Google’s support page for businesses.
