Having created and set up business accounts via Instagram for Business, the Facebook-owned social network is currently testing a new profile category specifically for digital influencers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ‘Creators Account’ category is set to introduce specific analytics features for influencers and people with a large online following, such as a smart filter for direct messages (determining who can and cannot send them messages) and in-depth data on the profiles that follow them and those who have unfollowed them.
In addition, Instagram plans to introduce special buttons for adding professional contacts, such as business partnerships and press relations.
According to Instagram’s product manager, Ashley Yuki, “the idea is to create a space where we can tailor the experience more specifically to the needs of content creators, whilst developing more tools to help them within the app”.
The concept is very similar to Twitter’s ‘verified account’. On the microblogging platform, profiles that have the ‘blue tick’ – meaning they are certified as genuinely belonging to the person in question – have access to additional analytics features designed to enhance meaningful engagement with their fan bases.
There is still no information on when the feature will be rolled out to Instagram for good.
